Missing-image behavior differs slightly by tool because the three tools have different layout roles.

Featured Image widget

The widget outputs no image unless you configure a fallback.

Featured Image Background

The extension can use the configured Velox fallback image or leave the element’s original Elementor background available.

Featured Hero

The Hero remains usable without an image, allowing a text-based state or configured fallback design.

Choose deliberately

For reusable templates, test the missing-image state before launch. Do not assume every future content item will always have a Featured Image.
